Bent Spoon Duo (two types)

Type 1: Cassette “Fossils of Slumber” (2009, Holy Cheever Church Records, HCC-020)

A cassette edition of 56 capturing the Bent Spoon Duo line up of Chris Dadge and Scott Munro in Toronto Canada, tapping instruments when they’re supposed to be and when not. Sometimes notes are allowed to rise cleanly but more often thwarted by electronics or technique, mashed sonic chunks like crumbling concrete where wood and other soft parts have been eaten away completely, but with ample space left for doors and windows should anyone decide to rebuild. I’ll also mention Holy Cheever Church makes nice looking cassettes, with bold simple design and spattered with paint. Holy Cheever Church Records

Type 2: Live in the tunnel: Chris Dadge & David Laing

The other Bent Spoon Duo with Scott Munro banished and replaced with David Laing played in front of a small noisy crowd on June 9th at midnight in the secret tunnel. The set was introduced with a unapologetic broadcast of some stellar cassette noise played on tiny speakers and transitioned to, among other things, some remarkable folk singing by David, and some equally fine interactions by both on their respective instruments, neither of which I recognized. Both were small and the musicians seemed to not have trouble lifting them on their own. Chris’s appeared to be wooden and David’s metal, possibly brass or nickel.
